“No rich person has ever put in an honest day’s work.”

This is the most easily defeated argument I’ve ever seen in my life. Pathetic, really. You’re like a confused (yet amusing) little clown.

If it is so easy to defeat, why didn’t you? Here - I’ll do it for you. An old farmer who won the lottery. He is a rich man who has put in a hard days work. I think you completely missed the point by taking it literally… Typical conservative BS. You probably think Noah’s Ark is real, too.

I gotta disagree. Why should people who became successful have to pay more, have to pay for being successful? Isn’t that somewhat Anti-American? I think this country was kinda founded on the principle that your free to do as you please, make as much as you can, do the best for yourself and your family. These people did that, and they should be punished for it? Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Also, I don’t want the common man running the Government, the common man, while tough, while hes had to put up with a lot of bullshit, generally, hes not very smart. I’m a common man, I pride myself on being semi-intelligent, but I know I’m not cut out for political office. Yeah, he’d shake things up, and it would be nice for a bit, but in the long term, it just wouldn’t work.

Also, enough with the Global Warming crap, its mid-April, Cleveland is buried in snow, along with parts of the east coast, even having snow in New Mexico, Texas, and Northern Florida. The Worlds median temperature has risen .01% every year since the dawn of man, nothing we are doing is changing that, and nothing can be done to stop it. So, in about 10,000 years, were really gonna be fucked!

Ok. You know there once been tried to equal everyone and create single nation-wide middle class with equal opportunities. The key principle was “take from everyone as much as they can, give as much as they need”.*(see ps)

And it failed cause people decided to slack off and do they jobs to get everything they need cause they knew they gonna get it anyway.

When USA was formed it based on principles of allowing anyone to do anything as long as everyone pays taxes (with exceptions of illegal stuff such as drugs and etc). On the other hand by allowing this they said in return we will not get involved in anything else ie healthcare. Now they do started slowly to slowly improve involvement in social aspects of life.

America did create the American Dream reputation due to the fact why&how it is formed. Now you can only suck it up, since that is why it even exists and is rich on average.

Don’t blame it and don’t try to take money away from the rich.
Don’t fight the consequences when you should deal with the causes.

ps This country in the introduction was USSR.

Totally agree with Mr. Tickles.

About global warming. Usually in Latvia we have lots of snow in April and the spring waters just start to run in mid-April. This year there was no snow since January and really hot.

The most pathetic part of that story is that politicians here in europe use the described superficial “success” of the american economy as justification to turn our social security/work systems into biased pieces of evaluating sh*t that work after the principles of the new god called capitalism. So not only do they screw their fellow citizens but export that BS to other places as well. Sure europe had its own share of exploitation long before but a painful process of revolutions thaught us a lesson.

@Tickles:
“Why should people who became successful have to pay more,”

Because they can! You would let a guy starve while you sit on a truckload of bread -because noone should have the right to make you help him, right? That is why the world is so pissed off by certain americans: They rub it right under your nose that they’ve got everything but refuse to do something useful with it unless they benefit some more. Poor people are the reason the wealthy are rich. Who does all the work actually “making” the things a company sells? The managers? Yeah… right. W/o the low class laborers they’d be a bunch of philosophizing useless bums. And that exactly s what man is civilized for: Helping others that can’t provide for themselves else we’d still be animals and as it seems you like the idea of being an ass (I would have said monkey but hey: even apes act social).

It’s not that too little money is raised to fix our schools and other issues, it’s that it’s not spent correctly. The problem doesn’t lie with rich people, it lies with rich, poor, and everyone in between who allows misspending of our money by our governments.

There’s nothing wrong with being rich any more than being average. Rich people just have more resources to use for whatever their inclined to use it for. Money is just a tool. Even if we tax the rich more and more we’ll just have more of the same problems.

Also to author, if making 18 million is easy, then do it.

Ya know … its a hell of a lot eaiser to sit on you worhtless ass collecting your wellfare check than it is to wake up at 5am and work your ass off till 8pm to make your first million by 28.

You want to see a “rich” person who makes an honest days work …. Hi … nice to meet ya.

I havn’t had a vacation in 5 years … how about you ?

I fully agree phig, i have known several people over the million dollar mark and every single one of them work no less than 16 hours a day. There is the few small people who don’t but 90% work their ass of to keep the momentum going,

When i grew up, my buddies stepdad was a real estate mogul, he owned around 2000 rental houses, and numerous development investments, every single eviction and rent collection he did, he was a millionaire and he spent 14 hours a day in the ghetto working on houses, collecting and fixing. he could easily pay people to do it, but he didnt become rich by having folks do his dirty work.

The rich are some of the hardest working people you will ever meet.

To Mr. Ledkov, thats exactly what I mean, weird weather is gonna happen everywhere, its just the way it is, but when you average everything out, the planet is not getting hotter by leaps and bounds like others will have you believe.

To Marcus, If I worked my ass off for the truck of bread, and the bum who wont work for his keep wants some, I’m gonna kick him in his asshole and tell him to fuck off. Why the hell should I give someone a free ride? Thats called being an enabler. With that logic, you’d have given Anne Frank a drum set, you lunatic.

Phigmeta! You hard-working millionaire you! You must be GI Joe, because you are a REAL AMERICAN HERO! God, you didn’t even go in to what you do. I know you don’t just work a regular 9-5 at Kroger stocking shelves for 8.50. Whose shit do you have to eat to fill your bank account? Whose back do you lay on while the cash rolls in?

You, along with most of the other commenters, are all extremely gullible. Are you really so stupid to think a blanket statement as “no rich person ever worked” is my honest-to-God belief? It was a literary device to instill a point. It wasn’t meant to be taken literally. So get off your fucking million dollar high horse and pay some taxes you rich fuck. There are people starving while you probably do investment banking or real estate or some other shit. And then you have the NERVE to tell me I collect welfare? I have never taken a cent that I didn’t work for.

How do you feel about the Fairtax? (info @ fairtax .org or The Fairtax book) It eliminates taxes the lower class pay, relieves tax burdens on the middle class, and rewards people who save or invest their money.

The rich are taxed heavily as it is. The top 2% of income earners pay 90% of the taxes collected in the U.S.A.

I have a real issue with your statement that the rich have never worked in their lives. True there are those in this world that have money and have never worked a day in their life (*cough* Paris Hilton). But, that’s no reason to rip on everyone who has money.

My parents are fairly well off, but this hasn’t always been the case. My father started his own business when I was a teenager. The first year we lived off what my parents had in savings and let me tell you it wasn’t easy.

For about five years I barely saw my father. He left the house at 6:00am and didn’t come home until about 5:30pm. After dinner he’d work for another three hours or so.

After fourteen years of dedicated labor my parents are doing pretty well. But it’s only because my father poured all his effort into growing his business. Where he is today is directly because of hard work. He’s also spread his success around. His employees are paid extremely well. The Christmas bonus he gave to one of his employees last year was more than my yearly salary. Friends always ask me why I’m not working for Dad. My response is that I don’t want to be the bosses kid, you know what I’m talking about. I want to make my own success and I’m going to do it the same way my father did. Work.

If you wanted all the above, go live in China. There is communism there, so everybody gets the equal amount(not). The education there beats the crap out of us. How do I know? I was born and raised in the People’s Republic for five years. You try to understand multiplication and division along with everybody in your class when you are in preschool and is 3 years old. You would probably have to work hard as you never thought possible just to understand the college courses there.

I was going to say, chill man, it’s why they make beer.

The I ran across this gem in the comments:

“I think this country was kinda founded on the principle that your free to do as you please, make as much as you can, do the best for yourself and your family. ”

actually, the country was founded on the principle that the wealthy landowners who founded it were free to do as they please with their slaves, not pay taces to Britain on what their slaves made, and pass their propety wealth and slaves on to their sons, excluding their wives and daughters, who weren’t really people.
