I’ll just keep this short and simple.

1) This country was not founded on any set of religious beliefs. One of the primary reasons for breaking off from Britain was to get out from underneath of the boot heel of the English church so that we as a people could choose to believe in any god that we wanted to or no god for that matter.
2) “In God We Trust” was not put on our money until “1956″.
3) As far as “Christmas”, the vast majority of atheists really don’t give a damn. We like to give gifts as much as the next person. The people trying to get rid of the name “Christmas” for that particular celebration are those of other faiths (Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, etc.). Not to mention the fact that most biblical scholars and preachers readily admit that they know Christ was not born on December 25th. However, they claim that this day is as good as any other to celebrate the birth of Jesus, despite the fact that it was originally a pagan celebration called Saturnalia which commemorated the birth of the sun god.
4) “god in school”. Whose god? In the last few millennia there have been a few thousand gods and religions worldwide. Who gets to pick which ones get to sit at the front of the class?
5) Lastly, I don’t have to prove anything to you. I’m not making any definitive statements here. You telling me that I have to prove to you that there is no god would be like me telling you that you have to prove to me that invisible unicorns don’t fly through the sky at night. The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim.

So, until you prove to me that your particular god exists I’ll go on being an atheist. Thanks. :)

Quit spewing bullshit, please! First off I am not an Atheist, but Agnostic. You say that Atheists never prove their point, right? Well I ask: “how you can prove yours?” Do you have God’s cell phone number? Can you tell him to stop by my place for coffee?? Basically, you are saying that because an Atheist cannot prove the non-existence of a “Higher Power” with objective truths, they are in essence wrong. And yet, your argument only offers your own subjective truths. THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY ANYONE CAN TRUELY PROVIDE AN ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF THE EXISTENCE OF A GOD, only arguments. Maybe you should pull your head out of your ass for a moment; maybe then you will realize your ranting is nothing but the same proof-less ideals that you are so eagerly berating Atheists for.

Ps. Just incase you need clarification of my truth terminology: Objective=Scientifically Verifiable truth. Subjective=Only what you believe to be truth. I recommend you refer to Philosophical texts by Kierkegaard, if you desire further clarification (it might be good for you, seriously!).

Nick stole my comment.

Bravo Nick! You wrote everything I was going to write.
The reasons why our fonding fathers chose the words they did, ‘Freedom of religion.” It meant so everyone was free to choose their own, not be bound to any one particular religion.

The part about our money. Go ahead folks, look that one up.

Christmas WAS a pagan holiday taken from the pagans use of trees to celebrate Saturnalia. Feel free to look that one up too.

And yes, whose God? This country said everyone is free to pick their own, so whose god should our kids be praying to in federally funded schools where we are supposed to have separation of church and state?

And I don’t have to prove anything to you either. I don’t pester you to believe what I believe, so quit
knocking on my door early on Saturday mornings telling me I need to be saved by your god.

Really, you are totally free to believe whatever you want, I have zero beef with any religious people until they start in on me.

I’m still trying to figure out why “denying some sort of higher power is absurd”? Is it any more absurd than believing in a higher power? Until anything can be proved using the scientific method, I won’t believe in it. And don’t tell me that plenty of scientists believe in a higher power. Just because they are scientists, doesn’t mean they always act like scientists.

Funny how “Under God” was added to the pledge of allegiance in the cold war to piss off the soviets… Besides, Christians are really obsessed about their religion. Most every Christian I ever met is nice to me, until I say I’m atheist. Then, it’s a 3-day lecture on why there is a God, why they are right, and why I’m wrong.

Betting $5 that the author would never bother to even look here.

2.75% of the population of the US is Christian. 75% of the prison population in the US is Christian.
3.Atheists divorce rates in the US are 6% lower
4.You say that Atheists don’t have a point; I still don’t get your point on writing this article since you don’t say anything except that Atheists are awful.

I think his point is, why the hell is every Atheist in the world trying to ruin shit for people who believe in God, Christianity, whatever? Other than they want to sound superior in intellect to everyone else without actually having to be that.

It’s kind of like people who rag on Bush constantly to try and sound intelligent. No shit the guy sucks! You’re not some genius opening up everyone’s eyes on the matter. You’re just a follower jumping on a bandwagon of pseudo-intellectuals.

Funny Videos stole my comment…

But seriously, I’m sort of an Atheist. I hate Catholics, Christians, and anybody else who’ll not just let me be a Christmas-hating Atheist. If you get to say “my god (who I might add was never properly named) is the ONE TRUE god!” then I get to preach my beliefs that we all anwser to the kind of dragon we lived most like in our lives when we die. Think I’m full of crap? Well fucking deal with it! Maybe if you had more than half a brain, you see that all your holy books and stuff is all full of shit!

Okay? And you’d better hope not to have to answer to a black dragon when you die, ’cause that’s where I’ll be, and I’m gonna get that black dragon to spit acid all over you and together we’ll laugh as you skull melts away, showing that you in fact DIDN’T have a brain, and that your head was just ful if dead hamsters and bits of fluff! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides, we’re all being reincarnated after we serve our sentence in either Heaven, Hell, or both, depending on how we lived our lives…

Besides, why would we leave this holiday of yours alone? It’s so much fun messing with you fucking assclown Americans and your religious bullshit. It’s a passtime of mine. A hobby, really…
