I am kind of curious as to where you are located? I have experienced this in a smaller area I believe but when I linked to your story one of the questions was where is he located.

Care to give out this information?

Interesting idea, but I can’t say I’ve seen it happening in my area (Las Vegas, Nevada).
The local GameStop here is populated by mostly black and mexican workers. No females to be seen.

Thats good to know Dunny, I didn’t know if it was just my area, or regional or what.

Anyone else around that can say one way or another?

That’s both interesting and disturbing. I’ll keep an eye on my local Gamestops. Out of curiosity, are any of these shops located in predominately black neighborhoods? That would really be telling, if such a store had suffered the same kind of staff changes. I did notice the nerd/hottie team at a Gamestop I went to recently, but it was in a predominately white neighborhood, and I was frankly just relieved that the obnoxious douchebags who used to work there were gone. I have a buddy who works at one in the hood, so I’ll ask him if any changes have happened at his store.

Yes, 6 out of the 11 are in the city that is mostly black.

I find this whole think somewhat amazing, as I applied to three GameStops here in LA, all in the Culver City area, and couldn’t get a job at any of them…

Perhaps it’s because I’m a petite little white girl that actually knows what a Nintendo is? Personally, I prefer my 360.

In and around Queens I see that combo more and more. But then I went to get a game In Washington while I was there and no combo, just whoever.

That combo in reality doesn’t really exist to be honest. It may seem like that in a certain area and some people are let go for legitmate reasons. Here’s what I can say in GameStop’s defense.

In the district I’m in, there are plently of black and hispanic workers. Some of which are members of management even. And to speak for my store alone there are 2 black associates in the staff.

Up until last week I was the only female in the store and we’re not there for show. GameStop runs on numbers, and if you don’t know shit about video games your numbers are going to be bad, which leads to termination generally. And I know the other girl, as pretty as she is too has nearly every system herself too and is incredibly helpful in her recommendations.

This is really normal in all the stores I’ve been to since I started working with the company. I think it’s just a mere coincidence in your area.

GameStop isn’t intelligent enough to pull off a grand conspiracy like that. :)

in response to DrunkAvril’s 360 comment:
“then you sir, are worse than Hitler”
we all know wii is the superior system, as Nintendo has never been less than the best.
on topic though, its almost true
my gamestop has no more blacks, but we don’t have a girl there, thank God though, i hate when people do not know the MIGHTY NAME OF NINTENDO! but yea, its a nerdy guy, and then a body builder guy (most of the people at the mall are probably women or gays anyways)

Uh Kusoyarou-San…. What makes you think that a girl doesn’t know what a Nintendo is?

hello all…so i am currently employed by gamestop. just a low level “Game Advisor” and in the two stores i work at i can tell you this combo doesn’t exist at all lol. the two girls i work with at my store A know way to much about video games and B aren’t the cute little bimbos lol. and also the other store i work at is in a predominately black and spanish neighborhood and of the like 7 people i’ve met that work there 4 are either spanish/black… i think it’s just more of a coincidence cuz like someone else said. its based off numbers. low numbers=fired no matter ur gender or color.

I live in a podunk little town called Thibodaux, in the very south of Louisiana. I know quite well that although there are a few attractive women in my local GameStop and the two in a neighboring city, there are three African-American guys working at my GameStop and more at the others nearby. The “combo” you mention is more than likely total bullshit.

I’ve worked at EB Games (now GameStop) for over three years and am myself, I guess you could say “hot” however I have been playing video games since I could beginning with Atari. Don’t underestimate someone because of their looks… or because they are female!!
Also, I am from the Baltimore area and none of the stores I am near have done anything like what you are talking about. I have not seen any signs of that in this area whatsoever!

this is bull crap do you realize how much the government would be on their butts if they pulled this off? I would kill to have a hot girl at one of my 6 local stores but alas, I get wolf man, and some 300 pound D&D geek.

Yeah i noticed the same thing happening at the EB i frequent. It’s been happening for a WHILE there. Though at least the FIRST couple hot chicks were gamers, and could usually provide some decent help. Unfortunately i went in the other day after having not been there for a while. Hot chick was replaced my larger, SIGNIFICANTLY less hot chick… who knew NOTHING about ANYTHING. She spen 10 minutes trying to turn on the PSP i was trading in by flipping the w-lan switch. Then couldnt figure out how to open it to put a game in. THEN when she got to the Collectors Edition Assassins Creed i was trading in, she took the game out of the big metallic case, scanned it as a REGULAR edition, and handed me the case with the artbooks/figureine/comic saying “We dont really need al that stuff”.
i replied that it was a COLLECTORS EDITION, SO YAH YOU DO NEED IT…which somehow confused her. I ended up just taking everything back and going to a different damestop by my moms with the relatively hot chick who KNEW what was going on, and was a decent friendly conversationalist to boot.

IDK WTF they were thinking canning a hot knowledgeable chick in favor of an ugly dumbass…. but i certainly wont being going back THERE ever again.

Searching for a rare game at GameStop is like looking for antiques at Wal-Mart.

I gotta say that’s interesting, but the two gamestops nearby my house have a brother and a hispanic guy working and no petite girls. what is really interesting is that i live in the deep south.
