Enough about Imus & Anna Nicole

Wow, what a slow news day. There have been nearly 3,500 US soldiers killed in Iraq, we are under the control of a deceitful president, and our country goes into deeper debt every second. It is no wonder this isn’t on mainstream news media, I guess it’s just too depressing. Therefore, they have to hammer away at non-issues like Anna Nicole’s baby or comments made by Imus about the Rutgers woman’s basketball team. I am so tired of hearing about both of them - I want people to see the disaster they have wrought by voting in President Bush in 2004. Most of you did! At least 51% elected this clown, so I don’t think you should be able to sit back and ponder the parentity of the Anna Nicole kid, you should be subjected to seeing war footage and streaming video from poor communities.

Now about Imus. I never liked his radio show, which I never once heard on the radio. I saw it on TV. It was very compelling, an old man whispering into a microphone with his eyes barely open, usually wearing a cowboy hat. Apparently he called the Rutgers womens basketball team a bunch of “nappy headed hos” or something. Now all of a sudden we have Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton coming out of the woodwork for the free publicity as they do every time someone isn’t praising the black community as much as they should. Hey, don’t get me wrong, I’m a Democrat and I agree with many views of Sharpton, but this is senseless headline grabbing on his part. Everyone involved in this is an idiot. Imus is an idiot for his comment. Sharpton is an idiot for directing the spotlight his way, and even the Rutgers coach is an idiot! On TV right now it’s saying she cried for days over his comment. Please, get a life! Things may not be perfect for the black community, but I guarantee you some old man on the radio calling a basketball team nappy headed isn’t the biggest among their problems. How about Sharpton talk about fighting poverty, low income housing in black communities, and crime? Instead he takes the easy way out by attacking an old fool on the radio.

This brings up an ever bigger problems for us liberals, umbrage. A lot of people think of us as sissys for this very reason, someone like Sharpton coming out to call for heads to roll every time someone says a hurtful comment. I say, let’s stop worrying about these little soundbites and get to brass tacks on issues that matter most. Kerry lost because he let Bush attack him into the ground without firing back. It is time for liberals in general to get back to basics, stop going into uproars over every little media quote, and actually present our ideas to the people! I think we would find that most people are progressive…. Now, if only there was airtime for actual issues instead of some drug addict’s kid…
